About Honda Clarity

If you're looking for cutting-edge alternative-fuel technology in a Honda, the 2020 Clarity lineup, which consists of two very different powertrains, is a good place to start. The Clarity plug-in hybrid is sold nationwide and boasts an estimated 48 miles of electric-only driving range. Now that the Chevy Volt is dead, the Clarity beats every other plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in this price range. The more exotic option is the hydrogen-powered 2020 Honda Clarity fuel cell, which has a claimed range of 360 miles. It's available only to lease and only in California, where there's at least some of the necessary hydrogen-refueling infrastructure. The equipment that makes the Clarity environmentally friendly is heavy, so neither Clarity has the light, precise feel that distinguishes Honda's conventional cars. Still, it's easy to make a case for the plug-in hybrid if you want an EV-like driving experience with a gas engine in reserve for the times you'll need it.
